Showcase Showdown: Shaun White Wallets v. Jack Spade Wallets

Feb. 28, 2012

In one corner Extreme snowboarder Shaun White.

The other Preppy king Jack Spade.

Face off Both have new lines of wallets.

Pros Shaun’s are vegan friendly. Jack’s seem made to last.

Cons Shaun’s are made from plastic. Jack’s can get kind of pricey.

Winner Shaun’s wallets. They stopped me in my tracks at Target (you can find them in the boys department or online.) They certainly seem inspired by Jack Spade, but if you are looking to save some coinage, buy Shaun. Want something that lasts? Buy Jack.

MinkWell and Marie Claire

Feb. 22, 2012

MinkWell is excited to present their latest project Marie Claire Outfit 911, a style book from Marie Claire and author Joyce Corrigan. Whether you’re dressing to impress in the boardroom or heating things up for an all-night beach party, let Marie Claire Outfit 911 be your guide. Think of this book as a style safety manual with gorgeously illustrated tips tried and tested by Marie Claire editors and fashion world gurus like: Tim Gunn, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, and Donna Karan.

“Who knew a book on style tips for women would be so much fun to design? Working with Joyce Corrigan and the crew at Sterling Books was a total pleasure.  I’ve worked on fashion titles before, but MC0911 gave me a renewed appreciation of true style.” says MinkWell partner Michael Picon.

“This book was a total blast to work on with lots of runway shots mixed with celebs photo. What’s not to love?” raves MinkWell partner Heath Brockwell.  “My style take-away came from the section about the LBD (Little Black Dress) and how it can flatter any figure. The image of Christina Hendricks in the chapter is stunning: she looks so natural and at ease. To me, that is true style.”

Willy Nelson vs. Coldplay: Fast Casual Style

Feb. 13, 2012

Did you happen to catch this commercial last night during The Grammys? If not, check it out. How cute are those pigs? To quote from Chipotle’s non-profit Cultivate Foundation. “Delicious, affordable food can be produced without exploiting the farmers, the animals or the environment,” says Steve Ellis, the chairman of the Cultivate Foundation. “Chipotle has proven that to be true, but Chipotle is only one small part of the solution. Our goal now should be to have all food produced as sustainably as possible.”

Download the song on iTunes (sorry Spotify) and 60 cents of your 99 cents will benefit the Cultivate Foundation, which has already donated $2 million “to help fund initiatives that support sustainable agriculture, family farming, and culinary education.”

Nice work Chipotle, ethical farming never tasted so good! And I’m voting for Willy on this round. I wonder if Glen Campbell is available for their next ad?

Impossible? Hardly …

Feb. 12, 2012

Tales of Santa might seem a bit dated, especially when Saint Valentine is on his way, but what the heck?

I got two packs of Polaroid film as a gift from Stephen. Yes, I know you are thinking, ‘Didn’t Polaroid go bankrupt?’ It did, but right before they went under and destroyed one of the last factories that manufactured the film, a group of investors got together and purchased the factory in Enschede (NL). The name of the group: The Impossible Project. It was their mission to keep analog instant film alive in the age of the digital over-share.

I visited their store located in New York City’s SOHO neighborhood. Armed with my SX-70 Camera (which must have been the iPhone of its day) I got a tutorial of how their film works and left with a box of color and black and white film and a flash bar.

How did it work? Not every shot was a success. I pulled my camera out during a party and got lots of questions and quickly turned into an Impossible sales person. Pictures seem to work best with lots of natural day light (see the christmas tree above). Would I get more film? I’m counting the days for Santa (or Saint Valentine) to visit again.
